Meet Sumen

Hi, I am Sumen Reddy. I am an Educational Psychologist. I am also an International accredited Ego State therapy therapist and a Clinical Hypnotherapist. My training was conducted by the Australian Institute of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (AICHP). I consult with clients of all ages, young and old. I have a special interest in grief, trauma, anxiety, depression and dissociative disorders. I also conduct a range of assessments and accommodation assessments for clients of all ages.

Ego state therapy helps people resolve conflicts between their different ego states it is rooted in psychoanalytic principles but is often more interactive and focused on present-day concerns. Psychodynamic therapy explores how unconscious processes, past experiences, and early relationships shape our current thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.

Ego state Therapy is used to treat a variety of behavioural and cognitive problems. Ego states can be thought of as differentiated parts of an individual’s psyche, each with its own memories, beliefs, and feelings. Recognizing these states can facilitate deeper self-awareness and emotional healing. Ego State Therapy (EST) operates on the idea that our personality consists of multiple ego states, each with its own unique perspectives, emotions, and experiences. These states can be healthy and adaptive or hold unresolved trauma and emotional pain. EST can be beneficial for a variety of psychological issues, including grief, trauma, anxiety, depression and dissociative disorders.

EST is based on the idea that personality is made up of multiple parts, or ego states, each with its own characteristics. Ego State Therapy can be considered a mind-body approach, meaning it incorporates awareness of bodily sensations and expressions when working with different “ego states” within a person, particularly when utilizing a method called “Somatic Ego State Therapy” which focuses on addressing the physical manifestations of emotional states and trauma stored in the body; making it relevant to working with physical symptoms alongside psychological experiences.

Somatic Ego State Therapy takes this a step further by incorporating bodily awareness into the process. Since trauma is often stored in the body, physical sensations can serve as gateways to accessing and working with ego states. By addressing both psychological and physical symptoms together, this approach helps clients release deeply held trauma and regulate their nervous system, making it particularly effective for conditions like PTSD, chronic pain, and dissociative disorders.

Hypnotherapy at times is utilised in Ego state Therapy, it serves as a tool to access these covert ego states, allowing individuals to explore unconscious material, resolve internal conflicts, and promote integration among different parts of the self. Hypnosis is often used to access these states directly, facilitating communication, integration, and healing.

Through hypnosis, therapists can help clients confront and heal from distressing experiences that may reside in specific ego states. By facilitating communication between different ego states, therapy can lead to greater cohesion within the personality, enabling individuals to develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Whether conducting assessments to the young and old, supporting emotional growth, or helping clients navigate complex emotions, I adapt my methods to align with the evolving needs of each individual. My goal is to walk alongside my clients, empowering them to build resilience, strengthen relationships, and embrace their journey toward personal well-being.
